Welcome Lakeside Families,
This marks my seventh year as principal of Lakeside Junior/Senior High School, and I am proud of the accomplishments our students and staff have achieved. Knowing our strength lies in our community, I am confident we will continue to live up to our vision, “Commitment to excellence through education. It’s a Lakeside thing.”
Some Lakeside alumni has taken their commitment to community and education a step further as employees in the District. Specifically, at the Junior/Senior High School Jaycee (nee Goudy) Schatz and Adrian Brown earned their diplomas in 2010. Jaycee’s at the helm of our Title VI program while Adrian continues to educate our students with special needs. Their classmate, Ashley (nee Zurcher) Anderson serves students in Food Services. But our longest serving alumnus, Jerel Hight (class of 2005), dons many hats throughout the week: as a paraprofessional, in technological support and he dazzles us all as Athletic Director. As a group our team of educators offer nearly two centuries of classroom experience as well as decades of life experiences. And our staff has equally diverse backgrounds and experiences – some have taught for decades, several for five years or less and some have worked in other professions prior to classroom instruction.
In our rural community, students have many opportunities to be the big fish in a little pond - in academics, athletics, the arts, video/gaming, student government – their efforts and achievements are recognized. Despite our size, Lakeside offers a panoply of choices for student involvement. These non-athletic activities include: The National Honor Society (NHS); Business Professional Association (BPA); Native Youth Community Program (NYCP); Future Farmers of America (FFA); the Knowledge Bowl; Performance/Visual Arts Club; Associated Student Body (ASB) Family, Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA.) As members of the newly formed Scenic Idaho Conference, Lakeside Knights compete in football, basketball, track and field and golf 1A Division 1. Last season our boys won the state basketball championship and did so undefeated. Our boys also tied for the division championship in football. Our Lady Knights compete in volleyball, basketball, track and field and golf; the Lady Knights placed second in district playoffs.
Our Lakeside family comprised of teachers, paraprofessionals, coaches, the Coeur d’Alene Tribe Department of Education, support staff, administrators and myself both welcome and encourage you to participate in your student’s education. Also, we can’t stress enough the need for your student to be on time for school and at school. The success of our students in both academics and extracurricular activities may only reach its fullest potential when all parties work together. We ask that you join us in making your student’s school experience rewarding, challenging and meaningful.
