Dear Plummer-Worley Parents and Community Members,
Welcome to the 2016-2017 school year! I want to take this opportunity to thank our staff for the hard work they put into each student. Staff in a small district develops especially deep and lasting relationships with students and their families. The Plummer-Worley staff is no exception. We work hard to help all students succeed.
This year we will continue to reward students for great attendance and being on time for class. Attending class every day is critical to student success. When a student is absent, making up the work is important, but it will never take the place of the teacher.
The school district will be running another 2-year supplemental levy election this coming spring to replace the current one. Due to economic conditions and reduced enrollment, in recent years the district has had to cut about $2 million from the budget. Most came out of staffing reductions. In 2013, the school board was ready to take the following drastic measures to balance the budget: cut funding to the entire athletic program; substantially reduce the kindergarten program; go to a 4-Day school calendar; and enact an emergency furlough of staff days. Thanks to the overwhelming support of our community, the levy passed and educational services restored. We need to keep qualified teachers in the classroom and provide students with a comprehensive educational program. Athletics teach life-long lessons about teamwork and help keep many students in school. Please get out and vote in the levy election this spring to keep vital basic services alive in our district. Students are depending on you.
