Dear Friends
and Families,
Last summer was full of strange happenings: news of inspections and a
dangerous buildings, needing to move the elementary students to Plummer, and
creating a unified campus through portables to name a few. I can’t
imagine what all of the happenings must have been like for our community!
This summer is far more upbeat. Some of the highlights include:
Progress
on the Elementary building
: I’m happy to report the building is on budget
and moving right along. Ground will likely be broke sometime in October,
and the move-in may happen as soon as October of 2011 although this all
revolves around fortuitous circumstances. We will have a picture display
of the new building during Plummer Days at the Community Center so you can see
progress.
Speaking of the Plummer Centennial, I found out today I get to be a
judge at the talent competition on Saturday at the high school beginning at
2:00. Hope to see you there!
School
Improvement Grant:
On Monday I learned we won a $526,000
grant! The grant will fund a School Improvement Director, Instructional
Coach, Community Connection Coordinator, incentive pay, 5 days of professional
development at the end of the year, technical assistance, and various other
items. Naturally I’m excited about this opportunity, and I
know it will help us as we increase student achievement.
New
Principals: I am pleased to announce our new elementary principal
is Monique English. She comes to us from the Coeur d’Alene School
District where she served as a Vice Principal at Skyway Elementary. The
committee found her positive, knowledgeable about instruction, and extremely
approachable. She is excited about accepting this position, and she can’t
wait to meet her new students and parents!
I am equally pleased to announce our new secondary principal is
Brad Madison. Brad has been a secondary administrator for 10
years. The interview committee felt he would have high expectations in a
reasonable and professional manner. He is very familiar and experienced
with the complexity of a secondary setting, and he has plans for working on our
graduation rate. Like Monique, the committee found Brad to be friendly
and approachable.
Music/Band
Teacher
: Troy Sirkel from Boise has accepted the music
contract. Troy is extremely enthusiastic about moving to beautiful
Northern Idaho, and we look forward to welcoming him.
Athletics
Participation Fee: At our July
board meeting, the School Board decided to continue the $30 Athletic
Participation Fee. There will be a $150 cap per family, and a $75 cap per
individual student.
I hope each of you is having a wonderful summer full of family and friends!
Sincerely,
Judi
